Olympic Long Track Speedskating Trials

On January 2, 2017, I posted information about the wonderful successes of the Pettit National Ice Center since the purchase of their property from the State of Wisconsin. More good news, the Pettit National Ice Center will be the host of the 2018 Olympic long-track speedskating trials, which will take place from January 2-7, 2018 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the 2018 Winter Olympics to be held February 9-25, 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The trials will be the first time the event has been held in Milwaukee since 2002. The January trials will follow the 25th anniversary of the Pettit National Ice Center.[1]
“Haven’t had something of this magnitude in a while,” said Kevin Butler, marketing director. “To get this back is a nice coup for us. It really coincides with the 25th. It may be our silver anniversary, but we’re looking for gold.”[2]
Randy Dean, Executive Director of the Pettit National Ice Center in an email said:
“The Pettit Center is honored to be selected to host the 2018 Olympic Long Track Speedskating Trials in early January 2018. The legacy of medal-winning Olympians who have trained and competed here makes the Pettit Center a very appropriate and inspiring venue to prepare our athletes to earn gold, silver, and bronze for the United States in Pyeong Chang. We are particularly thrilled that the Trials coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Center as an Olympic Training Site and an extraordinary community facility.”
